Epoxy.com Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) Primer

Product #6691

Technical Data Sheet

Product Description

A 2-component, clear, low viscosity methyl methacrylate (MMA) based primer for Epoxy.com floor coatings.

Uses

Product #6691 Primer is used as a general purpose MMA primer for properly prepared concrete substrates and also provides excellent bonding to metal substrates (e.g. iron, aluminum, stainless steel) and to ceramic tile substrates. We strongly recommend with all Epoxy.com primers that curing and adhesion tests are conducted on the particular substrate prior to general use on site to verify results.

Environmental and Health

Product #6691 Primer is a solvent free product but has an odor associated with it, ensure adequate ventilation and/or extraction with negative air movement to control odor and allow for proper curing. Follow the appropriate Occupational Health and Safety guidelines applicable to the location where the application is undertaken. For more information, please refer to the safety data sheets for the individual components.

Ratio of Components (by weight/volume of #6691 Primer)

  • @ 86°F: Add 3 fl. oz. #695 Catalyst per gallon of resin (1.5% by weight)
  • @ 68°F: Add 4 fl. oz. #695 Catalyst per gallon of resin (2% by weight)
  • @ 50°F: Add 8 fl. oz. #695 Catalyst per gallon of resin (4% by weight)
  • @ 32°F: Add 10 fl. oz. #695 Catalyst per gallon of resin (5% by weight)

The above addition levels are intended as a guide only. A small trial area is recommended to confirm the ideal catalyst level.

Add the required amount of catalyst to the resin. Mix with slow-medium speed drill and jiffy mixer, taking care not to entrain air. Exceed the minimum application layer thickness to allow a continuous, unbroken resin film, which ensures full through-cure. A second coat may be necessary when applying to concrete depending on porosity and Application Temperature rate used.

Application Temperature

The recommended substrate temperature is 50 - 77°F, but no less than 32°F (unless adding Cold Temperature Accelerator Additive) and to a maximum of 85°F.

The temperature of the substrate should exceed the “dew point” by 5°F during application and hardening. Temperatures should not fall below 32°F in the 24hrs after application.

For application temperatures below 32°F, please consult the Technical Service Department.

Application Time/Pot Life

Ready-mixed product should be used within 10 minutes at a temperature of 68°F. At higher temperatures the application time is shorter.

Curing Time (at 68°F)

The product is fully hardened after 60 minutes
